how to see your doctor
Appointments 01747 856700
The Practice operates a Flexible Access system, however from our recent surveys; it seems patients are not aware of which appointments are available.
Same day appointment
These are usually the best option and patients are able to book a surgery appointment with the doctor by contacting us the same morning. We always deal with urgent problems on the same day.
Telephone consultation
You may not need to see the GP in person in which case you can ask for a telephone triage appointment and leave a number for the Doctor to call. If you are happy for the doctor to leave information on an answerphone please give the receptionist your consent.
Future consultation
We encourage book on the day appointments, however you can book in advance if you wish to. Please try to avoid calling before 10.00am, the busiest time of day. The doctor can also phone you back first as this often allows us to offer better and more personal service.
Do I have to see my registered GP?
No, you can see any of the GPs. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to see the doctor you ask for, but we will try to accommodate all requests.
How long is an appointment?
A surgery appointment is ten minutes long. If you feel you may require a longer time please ask for the doctor to call to arrange this.
Test Results
There is no need to ring the surgery for tests results. Your GP will contact you if there is any need. If your Doctor has asked you to ring, please call the Doctor’s Secretary between 2pm and 4pm.
If you have any problems getting the help you need, leave a message for your Doctor.
There is a Suggestions Box in Reception and we welcome any constructive comments you may have.

Home Visits 01747 856700
Home Visits are time consuming for Doctors and every effort should be made to attend the surgery. If you are unable to attend the centre due to your illness then the doctor may do a home visit should he or she feels it is warranted. If you want a home visit please call before 10.00 a.m. so that Doctors can prioritise visits.
Out of Hours 0845 6001013
Outside normal surgery hours the emergency cover is provided by Dorset Emergency Care Service who will arrange for a doctor to call you to decide whether telephone advice, going to the treatment centre or a visit is necessary. After 6.30pm on weekdays or on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays, ring the number for Abbey View and listen to the recorded message or you may ring the number above to get direct to the co-operative.
Temporary Residents
If you have friends or relatives staying with you and they become unwell during their stay, the Doctors are able to offer treatment. If however, they are from a country with which we have no reciprocal health agreement there is a private fee for consultations and medication, available on request.
